UPCOMING EVENT IN CABO: ATP WORLD TOUR AUGUST 2016
The ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) elite World Tour, has chosen Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico as the host for the 2016 World Tour 250 series to be held August 813, 2016.
The decision to transfer the tournament to Cabo is an important one because it confirms and enhances the prestige of Los Cabos as a host to worldclass professional sporting events.
The Abierto Mexicano Los Cabos otherwise known as the Mexican Open will have a draw of 28 players and an award purse of over $800,000 USD, ranking it as the highest in its category in the Americas region and the 4th highest within the 39 tournaments of this category.
It will not only welcome renowned tennis stars, it is expected to welcome more than 20,0000 spectators, and is anticipated to be one of the exciting events of the year.
It will most definitely showcase the unique beauty of Los Cabos, which is one of Mexico’s most important tourist destinations.
Very few places on earth have such stunning scenery where the desert, mountains, and sea all converge into one exotic landscape.
The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar Golf & Spa Resort Los Cabos will be the host for this first tour.
The tournament itself will be played at the DelMar International School, which has a 3,500 seat stadium, a grandstand for 1,000 people, and three alternate courts.
The Solaz complex, a sport complex specifically planned to satisfy the needs of a tournament of this type, will be the location for the final.
Included in the first round of players are:
● Dominic Thiem, Austrian player and ATP’s biggest promise who won the Abierto
Mexicano in Acapulco, in February 2016
● Bernard Tomic, the Australian player who is considered “one of the best new
tennis talents in the world”
● Jeremy Chardy, from France, classified 33rd in the world
● Ivo Karlovic, from Croatia, classified 31st in the world
● Sam Querrey, from the United States, winner of this year’s Delray Beach
Tournament
● Fernando Verdasco, from Madrid, has a world ranking of 35th
● Feliciano López, from Spain
With an expected worldwide viewership of three million people and 55 stations broadcasting to 47 countries all eyes will not only be on the Mexican Open but on the Baja beauty known as Los Cabos as well.
